The Romantic Movement in England
This movement starts in 1785 and ends by 1830. It is important to remember that these dates are somewhat arbitrary. The Romantic Period as with every other literary period did not start or end in a day. It was a gradual process that continually evolved throughout the period.
The Romantic Period is characterized by many different themes and trends. You will be exploring these through this exercise. As you read through different works try to keep track of some of the recurring themes in the poems. After you complete this unit you will be asked to list the characteristics and also quote some examples from the works you read. (You will be able to refer to the works that you read to generate your quotes.)
After you do that you will also write your own poem or short story that exemplifies one or more of the themes that you found through your reading.
