Process

1. Brainstorm

Inventors think of new ideas to solve problems in their lives or the lives of others.  The journal you have been keeping of ideas or problems you see might help you in creating an invention!  You might just stumble across an idea while you are playing with friends.

Start brain storming ideas with your partner:

2. Gather Materials/Tools

I will hand out tools & materials after you present your ideas & sketch to me.

I have been collecting items from my house and from the school.  Everyone will begin with the same materials. Later, there will be time to switch and add materials.

Everyone will receive:

1 Box, Fabric, Glitter, Yarn, Buttons, 2:2-liter Plastic Pop Bottles, 1 Egg Carton (1 dozen size) , 5 Cardboard Toilet Paper or Paper Towel Rolls, 5 Wire Coat Hangers, & 2 Plastic Gallon Milk Jugs Tape, Glue, String, Paint, Paper Clips, and Safety Pins will also be provided.

3. Begin work

Start working on constructing your invention either by yourself or with your partner.  If you are working on your own invention, check in with your partner or ask for help when you get stuck. Look at the problem from all angles & consider all possibilities.  I will be available to answer questions, but use your classmates as resources!

4. Work on Patent

Every Great Invention needs a Patent to protect it! Fill out the Patent form to make sure your invention is protected from other inventors. (Patent forms can be picked up at Ms. Benson's Desk)

5. The Invention Convention

This is your chance to show off your Hard Work!  Everyone's inventions will be on display for everyone to view.  After everyone has had a chance to see the other inventions, we will have each inventor take 3 minutes to show his/her invention and answer any questions about it.  Your speech should introduce the problem you solved and the invention you made, how you made it, a major problem you faced, then be prepared to answer questions.  The Invention Convention will last for 2 hours.
