Modifications:  This lesson can be modified for diverse learners that may have motor skill disabilities.  These students would not be able to fully use the computer in order to complete the assignment.  For these students, the teacher may wish to make printouts of the information included on the resource links.  This way these students will still be discovering the information by going thru a variety of sources. 

 

Standards: State Goal 18:  Understand social systems, with an emphasis on the United States.

                        B. Understand the roles and interactions of individuals and groups in society.

                       3b.  Explain how social institutions contribute to the development and transmission of culture.

 

 

Integration:  This topic compliments cross-curricular integration with a Spanish classroom very well.  In the Spanish class the instructor may wish to introduce terms associated with El Dia de los Muertos as well as setup a Dia de los Muertos party.  This party could incorporate aspects of the holiday that were uncovered during this WebQuest (such as the decorating of a sugar skull) and the students could see them put into action this way.
