Pompeii was a small town south of Napoli in the Campania region of Italy.  In 79AD this city along with much of this area was devastated by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius.  Rediscovered in 18th century, it now provides as the most accurate record of life in the Hellenistic and Roman periods.  Most of this towns buildings were residential, and therefore give a small glimpse of the structure and decoration of the homes of this time period for at least this area of Campania.
