TURNER,AVERNUS,FATES,GB.JPG (32596 bytes) I am a classics major at Monmouth College and as a Native American, I have been chosen to receive the ACM Minority Scholarship. My summer project has been designed to help me decide between the various fields that I hope to pursue in college while providing me with a better understanding of what graduate school entails. My research project is to compare the various ways that women are portrayed in the epic tradition from Homer to Milton, which is designed to incorporate the three areas that I am considering to pursue in graduate school, Classics with an emphasis on Greek and Latin Literature, English, or comparative literature. Since my final goal is to not only to write a research paper but it is also to produce a web-page, this will enable me to learn how to the software Front Page which I feel is a necessary skill for the twenty first century and help me learn new methods of presenting the material that I have researched. Also this research project will provide me with an opportunity for interdisciplinary study, because my research paper incorporates the classics and English while my web page will also provide artistic representations of the epics that are presented in my paper.
