Welcome! This course in ceramics is designed to allow you to discover the various techniques used in the construction of clay objects.  The course is divided into two sections: the first is hand-building where you will learn how to successfully join the clay together, and begin exploring the various aspects of contemporary sculptural attitudes found in clay.  The second section is wheel-throwing where you will learn how to manipulate the clay on the potter’s wheel and create your own functional objects.

The course also offers you the fascinating discovery of the material clay – its formation in the earth, as well as its composition.  You will discover how to manipulate the clay through the process from beginning exploration of the form, through the firing, to a final product.  At the completion of the course you will have gained some knowledge of the history of the ceramic medium; you will have learned to manipulate the clay; and you will have become aware of your own personal artistic growth and development.         Top
