• Grading Considerations:
    The student who earns an A in the course arrives on time, stays the entire period, and spends the extra (required) three to six hours outside of class time each week.  This student completes the assigned projects and exhibits the following qualities: a)the student is productive (does more than the minimum), b) has positive work habits with a determination to improve, c) shows a grasp of the basic techniques and vocabulary, d) shows a sophistication in degree of technical achievement, (for example; learns to handle the medium [clay] and refine techniques), e) is willing to attempt new ideas, shows a degree of creativity, and is innovative, f) is willing to work through ideas and solve problems, g) exhibits a sensitivity to the materials and the processes, and H) shows an understanding of how inherent qualities are expressed in the finished work.
     
  • Students are required to glaze all of the projects constructed during the semester from the list below and all of these projects will be placed in the student's final display. 
  • In addition to the projects listed below regular sustained studio maintenance and final cleaning of the studio is expected.  You will be given a cleaning assignment during the last week of the semester.
     
  • Individual projects are due on the dates listed in the calendar and late work may receive a lower grade. 
  • Throughout the course I will note your progress in your sketchbook.  Notations in the sketchbook are generally positive and any suggestions are given to help you think about ways to improve your performance with the pieces you are making and your grade in the course. 
  • The final grade in the course takes into consideration the above mentioned criteria and project percentages, however, the final 30% of the grade cannot be evaluated until the final display.
