Dates for firing your work in the gas or electric
kiln will be listed on the board a few days before the scheduled loading
of that particular kiln. Generally, the charming and always
teasing message “Glaze or Die” will be written on the board so, take
that as a clue or warning that you need to glaze. You will
be taught glazing techniques as soon as everyone has a piece or
two to
glaze. After that it is expected you will stay current with your
glazing -- so there will be no need for the chaming message!
Please be aware that it is your responsibility to
identify, glaze, and move your work through the ceramic process and the
physical studio space. Students will not receive credit for
unglazed pieces. Do not store your ceramics in your locker
unless they have been through the glaze fire.
The end of semester schedule for final day to work with wet clay, final
day to attach handles, final bisque and final fire may be found on the
course calendar. Students need to know that the kiln only holds a
finite number of pots and when we load we put in what we can. If
you have pieces that do not get in the final fire..they will not be
graded.
