Studio Policies

Studio Policies:

The studio is a common workspace and informal classroom where students are expected to show respect toward each other. As you begin to know the work area - remember - the smooth running of the studio depends on you.

A short list of 'rules' would include the following:

	Do not smoke in the studio.
	Do not use cell phones in the studio.
	DO NOT wear headphones in the studio as this is a collaborative place to work and if you have something plugging your ears your colleagues and I will have problems communicating with you.
	Keep talking and radio at a level that will not disturb others.
	You may NOT bring friends in here to work, if you need to come into the studio in the evenings and would like to not be alone...get to know someone in the class or make sure you come during the time there is a studio monitor in the building.
	Please be considerate of others and ALWAYS clean up your own mess when you leave the studio -- whether you are coming right back or not. For instance, when you move your work back to the greenware shelf from the damp box --wash the board off--and put it away! Police the area around your wheel...with the mop if you need to do so. Wash your bucket --completely--do not leave any clay sticking to the side. Wash the wedging table and the counter tops if you've wedged or see pieces of clay laying on them....when it dries...it makes dust which creates an unhealthy environment.
	You are responsible for your work. There is a particular place for the work to go as it dries --be aware of the damp boxes, the greenware carts, the bisque shelves and the glazed carts. The work must move through these separate stages in a timely manner. If it is broken it is the student's responsibility to do the piece over.
	Always have your tools on hand.
	Do not dump clay or slip into the left sink. Do not use the sink in the glaze room for washing up after throwing. Put all unfired clay scraps, slop, too hard, too soft etc. in the soak/reclaim buckets.
	If you are an art major please remember to retain work from this class for your PORTFOLIO REVIEWS.

Please remember that students who arrive on time and attend class regularly learn quicker and achieve higher grades. Demonstrations will be at the beginning of the class period. It is the responsibility of the instructor to be prepared for each class period and it is the responsibility of the student to be present for demonstrations. However, please feel free to ask for any information or demonstrations missed.
