The goal of this assignment is to become more familiar with the inferences used by Kemble that refer to the politics, social,  and intellectual milieu of her timeframe in order to promote a more thorough understanding of her influences and the historic timeframe of the text.

  •  Assignment:   Research, write and present a report on your topic to the class. Once you have researched your topic develop an opinion (thesis) that you can share with the class in your report.  This will make your report more interesting to you and to the class.  I expect you to write and present this in a professional manner.
     
  • Due:   When you present your research either October 22, 23 or 24.
     
  • Topic:  Topics will be selected in class on  October 4, 2007.
     
  • Amount and types of materials needed:  You will need to find and research your topic in a book, an article (scholarly), an encyclopedia article, and the internet.  Your report should be around 3-4 pages in length, use MLA for the documentation.  You need to cite, summarize and quote where necessary.  Use in-text notation (MLA) for the body of the report and create a works cited page for your sources.  You must use all your sources.
     
  • Library Assignment Meeting:  On Monday, October 8, 2007 you should come to Hewes Memorial Library with an internet site you have printed off that begins to look at the topic you were given in class.  Our librarian, Laura Jensen, will talk to us about utilizing the library. 
     

Mechanics for writing your report:
1.                  Your report should be typed (10 or 12 pt) and double-spaced.
2.                  The length of the report should be approximately 500-750 words (2-3 pages) 3.                  The report should be clearly proofread and free from grammatical, spelling, and typing errors.
4.                  When supporting your points with evidence from other texts, you should cite the sources appropriately. 

a. Quotation marks belong around the words of others.  Introduce quotations, summary or paraphrasing from your source the first time you use it.
b. Page numbers should follow direct quotations as well as paraphrased or summarized material.
c. The heading on your first page should look like this (rt. or left is appropriate):
