Readings. Read the material
indicted on the syllabus thoroughly and
ahead of time. Come to class prepared to
discuss the material, and ask and answer
questions. Readings will come from our texts, handouts,
and the internet.

Occasionally, unanticipated opportunities
and events related to women’s studies may
arise during the semester. This semester,
the Blackfriars Troupe will be performing
The Taming of the Shrew on Tuesday,
March 4th, and there are three F Word
presentations. You are required to attend
this performance and at least two other
speakers or performances related to women's
issues. For each speaker or performance, you
must submit a 1/2 page typed response
connecting it to issues discussed in class
and/or related to Women's Studies (due the
first class period after the presentation).
Essays
Advertising analysis (15):
Analyze an advertisement from either the
1950s or the 1970s and compare
it with a contemporary and comparable
advertisement.
Film/ Television critique (15):
Closely analyze the gender of character to
explore the roles that
women play in films or television.
