Assignments

A.  Interpretation Through Film Assignment  You will be filming a brief interpretative sketch (3 -5 minutes) in which you interpret an important element of Twelfth Night, Midsummer Night's Dream, or The Taming of the Shrew.  This project will include a written analysis of your own work and a brief in class presentation of the sketch and analysis.

 B.  Formal Essay.  The final major assignment of the term will be a traditional literary essay with a prospectus, a first draft, and a final draft required.  The final paper (6-8 pages) will compare and contrast two plays by focusing on related themes.  Topics will be open including analyses of the Blackfriars' performance or of films.

C.  Informal Writing and Participation.  There will be some informal written work in and outside of class, and your active participation in this class is essential to its--and your--success.

D.  Midterm.  The midterm will cover Twelfth Night, Midsummer Night's Dream, and The Taming of the Shrew as well as information on the early modern theater and culture.

E.  Final exam.  50% of the final exam is cumulative and 50% will be on the work we have done since midterm.  It will take place on Tuesday, May 13th at 1 pm.
