Assignments

A.  Mini-Essays. During the semester, you will write three three-page essays on at least one history and two other plays. These will be thesis-based essays without additional research and without ideas used from the internet or other sources.  One of these mini-essay may be expanded for your final essays. Two mini-essays must be completed by midterm. Mini-essays are always due on the Monday (unless otherwise indicated) after we have completed reading the play.

 B.  Formal Research Essay.  The final major assignment of the term will be a traditional literary essay with a prospectus, a first draft, and a final draft required.  The final paper (6-8 pages) will focus on a theme or imagery that occurs in two works.  Topics will be open including analyses of the film/s.

C.  Informal Writing and Participation.  There will be some informal written work in and outside of class, and your active participation in this class is essential to its--and your--success.

D.  Midterm.  The midterm will cover Midsummer Night's Dream and Henry IV, Parts I and II as well as information on the early modern theater and culture.

E.  Final exam.  50% of the final exam is cumulative and 50% will be on the work we have done since midterm.  Exam day and time are listed on the course schedule.
