Title: Loyal Agents and Lost Causes: The Moral and Religious Significance of Josiah Royce’s Philosophy of Loyalty.
Advisory committee: Leora Batnitzky, Mark Larrimore, Jeff Stout.
The dissertation explicated the moral philosophy of Josiah Royce (1855-1916), his loyalty-centered ethics and its implications for an understanding of religious commitment.
