Tenor Thomas Booth became interested in
music as a child watching and listening to the pipe organ at
church. Later while in high school, he was inspired to begin
singing after hearing Mario Lanza's voice on the stereo at the
local weight lifting gym. His studies took him to the Juilliard School
and the Opera School of Chicago. His first debuts were as
a baritone both at the Metropolitan Opera and the Lyric Opera of
Chicago and then in Germany. After much prodding he
switched to tenor and won the Liederkranz Prize and performed
for the New York Wagner Society and then returned to the Met as
a tenor singing such roles as Prince Shuisky in Boris Godunov,
Prince Golitsyn in Khovanschina and the Stuerermann in The
Flying Dutchman. His Mario Lanza connection returned as he
toured the United States with the Mantovani Orchestra in a
tribute to the famed tenor. Other engagements have
included Calaf at the New York City Opera, Calaf and Canio in
Tenerife, the Berlioz Faust in Liege, Jerusalem, Stockholm and
Montpellier, Otello in Knoxville, Pollione in Boston, and many
Symphony performances of the Beethoven 9th, the Verdi Requiem,
Mahler 8th, the Messiah, The Dream of Gerontius. He has
recorded in London, Wales, and Washington DC at the
Kennedy Center. His recent concert
appearances include performances on the organ as well as songs
and arias, a very unique program that is received with great
enthusiasm by audiences. Highlights are now available on
CD. |
